Nurse Practitioners

Our Advanced Clinical / Nurse Practitioners are very experienced nurses who have undergone extensive and additional training to enable them to treat common health problems. The role involves seeing some of the same-day urgent cases, which means we can see patients more quickly. The following complaints can be dealt with by our Advanced Nurse Practitioners who, if necessary, will ask the GP to see you as well: rash, joint pain, mole, vomiting and diarrhoea, ear, nose and throat problems, chest infections, stomach ache, lumps/swellings, water infection, headache, hay fever, period/menopause problems.

Nurses

When booking an appointment with the nurse, it would be helpful if you could tell the receptionist what the appointment is for to enable them to direct you to the appropriate clinic. The nurse will give advice about any health matters and can give vaccinations (including those for foreign travel), check blood pressure, syringe ears, remove stitches and do dressings. If booking for travel vaccinations please state this so we can check your past vaccination history. The nurses also help monitor chronic illnesses such as high blood pressure, asthma and diabetes. The nurse can also deal with minor illness such as coughs, colds, diarrhoea, earache etc. but only emergencies can be seen without an appointment.

Healthcare Assistants

We have two Healthcare Assistants, one Trainee Nurse Associate and one Nurse Associate working as part of the team. They are trained in phlebotomy, blood pressure monitoring, some injection treatments and health checks etc. Blood samples are collected by specially trained members of staff. Please telephone or ask at reception for an appointment. Blood samples have to be taken in the morning so as to get to the laboratory. Blood samples can also be taken at the Northern General Hospital or the Hallamshire Hospital. Please ask reception for details. Please note, the phlebotomist cannot give medical advice.

Keeley is responsible for day-to-day operations, development and the success of our medical practice whilst also ensuring that we provide the best care possible for our patients.

Administration & Secretaries

Our Administration and Secretary teams undertake a variety of duties to assist in the smooth running of the practice. They provide vital support to both clinical staff and other members of the practice. Key duties include updating and maintaining patient records, data processing, organising appointment rotas, ensuring referrals are dealt with efficiently and promptly, typing letters from digital dictations, scanning letters, dealing with emails that may come into the practice and generating patient reports.

Reception

Receptionists provide an important link for patients with the practice and are your initial contact point for general enquiries. They can provide basic information on services and results and direct you to the right person depending on your health issue or query. Receptionists make most of the patient appointments with the GPs and nurses. They also perform other important tasks such as issuing repeat prescriptions and dealing with prescription enquiries, dealing with financial claims, dealing with patient records and carrying out searches and practice audits.

Pharmacists

The role of Practice Pharmacist involves dealing with medication queries, managing prescribing, reviewing and re-authorising medicines, reviewing letters and hospital discharge forms, address patient understanding about medicines and managing long-term conditions. Dhaval and Kehan work alongside the GPs, Nurses, and other practice staff to promote appropriate prescribing of medications as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
