NHS Health Checks
Posted on June 12th, 2020
We are starting to look at how we can proceed with a number of routine appointments during the pandemic, one of them being NHS Health Checks.
The NHS Health Check is a health check-up for adults aged 40 to 74. It’s designed to spot early signs of stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, type 2 diabetes or dementia.
If you are aged between 40 to 74 and DO NOT have any of the following pre-existing conditions you will qualify;
high blood pressure (hypertension)
transient ischaemic attack
inherited high cholesterol (familial hypercholesterolemia)
peripheral arterial disease
currently being prescribed statins to lower cholesterol
previous checks have found that you have a 20% or higher risk of getting cardiovascular disease over the next 10 years
Due to COVID-19 we are not currently inviting people into the practice for a health check but if you would like to have one and can meet the following requirements please call reception and let us know.
– If you have a blood pressure monitor you will need to measure your own blood pressure for a week. If you do not have a machine and would like to buy one these are available from most pharmacies from around £20
– If you have scales at home please check your weight.
– You will need bloods tests, these will need to be done at the drive through blood test facility at the Sheffield arena, available Monday – Friday, 9am – 4pm.
Once you have spoken to reception and notified us that you would like to proceed with your health check one of our Health Care team will be in touch.
Please DO NOT travel to the arena for any bloods until you have spoken to a Health Care Assistant as bloods will need to be requested.
