Improvement Work
Posted on October 22nd, 2021
We are aware of our telephone waiting times and how difficult it can sometimes be to get through to the surgery. With this in mind we have been doing a series of improvement work starting with ways we can improve our prescription service.
On an average week reception spent 11 hours and 42 minutes on the telephone processing over 300 prescriptions, with an average call lasting 2 minutes, 17 seconds.
The average online prescription however takes just 51 seconds to process, saving an average of 86 seconds per prescription or 4hours 30 minutes per week (based on processing 300 prescriptions).
To help us to help you and to free up the phonelines for those that really need it we are asking that where possible, our patients order prescriptions online. The NHS App appears to be the simplest way, visit https://www.nhs.uk/apps-library/nhs-app/ for details.
Many our patients already do this, but a large majority still call reception.
We appreciate that not everyone has online access and for that reason we don’t want to stop our telephone prescription service however we would ask that you only order your prescription via telephone if you do not have any online access.
We are also actively looking at ways to improve our appointment system, watch this space for details.
