Zoe Blythe
When booking an appointment with the nurse, it would be helpful if you could tell the receptionist what the appointment is for to enable them to direct you to the appropriate clinic. The nurse will give advice about any health matters and can give vaccinations (including those for foreign travel), check blood pressure, syringe ears, remove stitches and do dressings. If booking for travel vaccinations please state this so we can check your past vaccination history.
They also help monitor chronic illnesses such as high blood pressure, asthma and diabetes. The nurse can also deal with minor illness such as coughs, colds, diarrhoea, earache etc. but only emergencies can be seen without an appointment.

Blood samples are collected by specially trained members of staff. Please telephone or ask at reception for an appointment. Blood samples have to be taken in the morning so as to get to the laboratory. Blood samples can also be taken at the Northern General Hospital or the Hallamshire Hospital. Please ask reception for details. Please note, the phlebotomist cannot give medical advice.

Receptionists provide an important link for patients with the practice and are your initial contact point for general enquiries. They can provide basic information on services and results and direct you to the right person depending on your health issue or query. Receptionists make most of the patient appointments with the GPs and nurses. They also perform other important tasks such as issuing repeat prescriptions and dealing with prescription enquiries, dealing with financial claims, dealing with patient records and carrying out searches and practice audits.
Our Administration and Secretary teams undertake a variety of duties to assist in the smooth running of the practice. They provide vital support to both clinical staff and other members of the practice. Key duties include updating and maintaining patient records, data processing, organising appointment rotas, ensuring referrals are dealt with efficiently and promptly, typing letters from digital dictations, scanning letters, dealing with emails that may come into the practice and generating patient reports.
